What's New for the Upcoming Crop Season?

Smartstax - New stack of eight traits into one package. Includes tolerance to Roundup and Liberty herbicides, three proteins for below ground pests (rootworm larvae) and three proteins for above ground pests (European Corn Borer, Western Bean Cutworm, Black Cutworm, Corn Earworm, and Fall Armyworm). Reduces refuge requirements from 20% to 5%. We will have many hybrids available from Dekalb and Croplan, but supplies will be limited.

Roundup Ready to Yield (RR2Y) - Out in limited supplies in 2009. The Asgrows RR2Y trait is was developed by gene mapping that found a region in the DNA of soybeans that has a positive impact on yield. This results in more three and four bean pods, and even some five bean pods! RR2Y varieties for 2010 are still being screened to ensure that they meet the minimum 7% increase in yield required to be released as a RR2Y. Supplies will be good of both Asgrow and Croplan Genetics RR2Y soybeans.

Instinct - A new nitrogen inhibitor from Dow AgroSciences for use in liquid manure and UAN.

Aphid Tolerant Soybeans - Syngenta's Aphid Management System (AMS) will combine the benefits of a new native trait (not a GMO) and CruiserMaxx seed treatment to provide up to around 80% protection from soybean aphids.
